Turkish Prision Camps

Changri

CHANGRI (CANKIRI): This prison camp was located in the Vilayet of Kastamuni in Anatolia in north central Asia Minor. The town was situated on a tributary of the Kirzil Irmak River, about sixty miles northeast of Angora. The Turks first incarcerated French POW's captured at the Dardanelles, followed by British prisoners of war from Kut-al-Amara in this facility, just outside of Changri. The conditions in the camp were crowded and abysmal and the British considered it a punishment camp.
